This year, Covid-19 pandemic has taken a toll on all of our day-to-day lives. Our lifestyle is getting adapted to new and modified ways of maintaining personal hygiene while in public places. One thing that is commonly practiced by most of us is using a hand sanitizer. So, I came up with this simple design that can hold your travel size hand sanitizer bottle and can be hung on your belt buckle or hand bag or purse. No more digging into your bag for the hand sanitizer!
During this pandemic we did take roadtrip (completely contact free) and have an article listing down all the tips here in “how to travel safely during this pandemic“. If you are planning for one do check it out.
This holder hangs upside down with bottle opening head facing downwards. Hence it allows for easy pour out.
Since the travel bottles come in slightly different sizes, I have included options to adjust the size according to your need. Either you can directly correct with a vector editing software like illustrator or upload it into the cricut design space and then edit. If you do not have a cutting machine, you can also cut manually using the reference size file that can be downloaded with the template. In this tutorial, I am making this holder with faux leather (no sewing & no gluing involved). You can also use this design to make with thick fabric in any color or pattern you like.
Materials Used:
- Faux Leather
- Cricut machine + strong grip mat + Fine point blade
- Snap fastener + installation tools
- Rubber mallet
- Fabric stick on velcro
- Travel size sanitizer bottle
- Design template
- Keychain hooks

Travel Hand Sanitizer holder with Key Ring
Step – 1: Design
Open the template in design space by clicking ‘upload’. The file has a welded version on left and a customizable version on the right. I have provided this way to let you adjust the dimensions according to the size of the bottle you have. Using the below reference image you can modify sizes directly in the design space. Or if you are handy with Adobe Illustrator, you can open directly in it, edit and then import into Cricut design space.
Step – 2: Cut
Once you have adjusted the sizes, weld all the shapes together. Then attach the full welded shape with the two cutting lines given on two sides of the circular opening. There are slits on either sides to let the bottle head slide in easily as the opening is sized to the diameter of the bottle’s neck.
Material setting : Felt wool bonded & fine point blade. (My faux leather had felt backing. This is the setting that worked for me all the time for this particular material and thickness. Please do a test cut before doing the actual one.)
Place the material with good side facing down and secure with masking tapes on a strong grip mat.
Step – 3: Attach Velcro
The velcro i am using does not require any sewing. It has adhesive backing that stick to fabrics. Its a very good option if are not up for sewing like me.
Step – 4: Key Ring
Slide the key ring in through the top as shown in the picture below.
Step – 5: Snap Fastener installation
For this step, you need the installation kit.
To install, first poke a hole with weeding tool to mark where you want the button to be placed. Then use the punch tool to make a hole for inserting the fastener.
Follow the instructions that came with the kit to install the snap fastener.
Step – 6:
Now, Lets put our sanitizer bottle into the sleeve that we made.
Optional : Personalize
You can add your monogram initials, logo or name to personalize your holder to make it more of your style. I have just added an initial with adhesive vinyl.
