Here is how you can DIY a ‘No Soliciting sign’ for your front door or entrance wall. This article Includes a Free template for download. Make with cricut (vinyl cutting machine) by downloading the svg file or just print to a pdf file. Here I am going to show you how to make a sign on wood with vinyl.
Its always weird when a salesperson or a canvasser knocks on the door and tries to sell something or ask for donation etc. Most of the time even when we say that we are not interested or do not need whatever they are selling, they still continue with their sales pitch. Few of them are really pushy and I have had to listened to their complete sales pitch for several minutes. I am sure you would have faced such situations too.. Anyway, after our encounters with pushy solicitors, I had to make this sign.
I’m curious to see if this sign will actually work. Or if they’ll ignore the sign altogether and just knock. But I’m going to try anyway and hope for the best!

How to make a No Soliciting sign with cricut
STEP 1: Prep the base
Cut the wood plank to the size 6inch x 14inch. Then apply primer and white paint.
STEP 2: Open file & cut
While the paint dries, cut the vinyl. Download and open the free template in Cricut design space. For this project you need a vinyl that is meant for outdoors. I am using glossy outdoor vinyl in black color. Place it on a standard grip mat and click ‘make it’.

STEP 3: Transfer
After cutting, weed the letters and use a transfer paper to transfer onto the wood plank. Positioning it accurately is very important. First mark the center on board and slowly place the text to make sure its aligned straight. Press down firmly and peel off the transfer tape.
STEP 4: Add frame (Optional)
This step is optional and meant for aesthetics only. Either you can add wood strips on all four sides or just add on opposite sides or just leave it as it is without any frame. I used pine wood strips cut at 45 degree to have miter corner joints. Apply wood glue and add brad nails to fix the frame to the 1/2inch thick wood plank.
Without frame
STEP 5: Finish with sealer
Considering this sign will be out in the open, sealing the wood and vinyl texts is very important to make it withstand the temperature and other elements. I used a clear spray to seal the entire sign.
STEP 6: Hanging the DIY No Soliciting sign
It is up to you on how you want to hang the sign in front of your home. I installed two saw tooth hangers on the back of the sign and tied a metal string. Then, hung it over a screw that is installed on the exterior siding.
