There is a sense of excitement which gets us filled each time we go on a trip. More so if it is a road trip! This time I was even more excited than Naveen and below were the reason why –
Our evergreen excitement was that – It was a 10 hours road trip(one way) .. So yayyy….!!!!
It’s a get-together trip with my college buddies (four of us)!
We went five years of college (Bachelor of Architecture) together & each of us got married and flew to different places away from our home country. Coincidentally, we all happened to be in US at this point of time. Luckily, being a long weekend (it was the Labour day weekend), all of us were able to plan for the trip. I was very much looking forward to meet my friends after 4 years.
Well, here comes the highlight of the trip. As proud architects, we were most excited to meet at this location – Yes! One of the Architectural marvel I would say – The Falling waters by Architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Personally, I never dreamt I would visit the place in my lifetime, when we used to read about it during my college days. Naveen was also equally excited as I have described a lot about the works of F.L.Wright.
The next highlight was we got a chance to visit the ‘Rock and Roll hall of fame’ designed by Architect I.M.Pei and the Steamship William G. Mather Maritime Museum at Cleveland, while on the way to Pittsburg. This museum was really a informative tour about the whole life and commerce on the Great lakes. The Williams G. Mather is an authentic 1925 vintage Great Lakes bulk freighter, a reminder of the golden years of Great Lakes shipping. You can find the details about this museum here.
All of us drove from different places and had a chance to stay at a Vacation rental. It was like a cabin in the woods and we enjoyed our stay and spending time together here! You can find the details of the cottage here.
Booking for the Tour:
We had plans to visit two places. Falling waters and Kentuck knob. Unfortunately, we did not book the tickets and when we checked the previous night, everything was sold out. Disappointed, we thought of trying our luck by checking out in person. To our surprise, we got tickets for Inside tour of Falling waters. But, Kentucky knob was fully booked for the day.
So if you are looking forward to visit these places, try to book the tour well in advance. We went for the guided house tour. Each group had about 15 people and the guide was very knowledgeable and was very good in explaining to us about each and every detail of the house.
You can find the tour and tickets detail here.
Photography:
You are not allowed to take photographs inside the house, but you can spend time around the house and enjoy clicking the exteriors as much as you want. Frankly, inside the house you will feel like you want to fully utilize & experience the ambiance rather than clicking photos. It’s that beautiful and wonderful feel to be inside the house I would say.
Exterior:
You can explore the grounds around the house to capture the tremendous view at different locations. You may want to spend at least an hour for going around the site. The view at each point gives an unique visual treat to our eyes. So don’t forget to capture those. You may find the grounds map & its details here.
About the building:
The brilliant architect has played along with natural resources through his architectural elements to bring the serene beauty of the nature inside each & every room of the house. I can describe in a line as “Nature, manmade elements & Man co-exist here flawlessly”.
The beauty of Falling waters is different and unique in every season. Once you go there you might want to come back to visit again during another season. So am I. I am not gonna explain in detail here about its architectural features and break the ice. All I can say is, if you love creativity, nature & architecture, you should visit this beauty & experience yourself.
Enjoy the Architecture marvel!
