Top 6 reasonably priced best restaurants in Columbus with insanely tasty food
“One cannot think well, love well, if one has not dined well” – Virginia woolf
Naveen and I are big time foodies. We love exploring different kinds of foods around us as much as we love traveling. The experience of tasting each cuisine is not only unique, but also speaks of its culture/tradition. Every time you taste a new food, its like having a whole new level of party going on inside your brain that tickles your taste-buds. If you are a foodie like us with curious taste buds, then you will understand what I am saying.
Here is our top favorite places to eat in Columbus, Ohio. Here we are going to point you towards some of the best places where you can eat ridiculously well for a reasonable price. We wont be talking about any food chains. Our goal is to support and encourage local restaurants that serve delicious food. The opinions which we have shared with you below is solely through our own experience after numerous visits.
Addis Ethiopian Restaurant
This place is not only about their delicious flavorful food, but also about the unique dining experience you get. As per their tradition, food is not meant to be eaten alone. The food is served on a single large plate which is shared among friends/family. You can get individual plates too if you prefer it that way. The people who run this place and the staffs are very friendly and are always happy to help with the menu. Dozens of soft traditional bread called “injera” is first spread out on the plate. On top of it, the curries and veggies are served. One dish with additional veggies will be more than enough for two people.
Our personal favorites from the menu: Gored gored, Veggie Tibs Mahbarawi, Doro tibs, Doro Wot and Mango juice.
Los Guachos Tacqueria
This is the place we go to when we crave for mouth watering delicious Tacos. On our first visit to this place, the very first thing that captured our spicy craving taste buds is the onion & habenero mixture (not sure whats it called) that is served as complimentary topping on every table. Its so spicy and amazing when you have it with your tacos. I would say that this place has the best Al Pastor Tacos! They have happy hours on Monday (al pastor tacos – 2 for 1) and Wednesday (Gringas for 2$ each).
Our personal favorites from the menu: Gringas, Grilled Fish tacos, Fresh homemade Hibiscus drink
Sababa Mediterranean Grill
To describe it best, we call it as the “Mediterranean version of Chipotle”. You select a base first – pita or rice or salad or hummus, top with any meat of your selection, then pick a whole bunch of veggies and sauces. We specifically love their house sauce. You can also pick the level of spiciness to your bowl. We always have double hot sauce over double house sauce. They also have the typical Mediterranean appetizers such as falafal, baba ghanoug, feta leaves, hummus etc. This is our favorite place to visit when we want a quick & tasty meal.
Our personal favorites from the menu: Falafal with hummus & spicy feta, Chicken shawarma (Hot) with rice and veggies.
Tensuke Express & Sushi 10
This is one of our recent find. Naveen loves sushi and I love Ramen. This place has both of our favorite food! As a matter of fact, they have a wide range of items in their menu that will make you want to order most of them. They also have mini bowls if you want to taste a little of everything. Actually, Sushi and Poke bowls should be ordered from the next door place called “Sushi 10” that is within the “Tensuke market”. You can buy the food here and dine at Tensuke express.
Our personal favorites from the menu: Pork Gyoza, Ramen, Spicy shrimp tempura on rice, Spicy tuna rolls and Ramune soda
Bangkok grocery and restaurant
Thai food is our most favorite cuisine. I would say that this is our all time comfort food. This place has both restaurant and grocery store to our convenience. 🙂 There is nothing much satisfying than having Hot tom yum soup on a cold or rainy day. We keep exploring new item during each visit. You should definitely have Thai Iced Tea from this place.
Since we love cooking Thai food at home, our kitchen is always stocked up with Thai ingredients from their grocery store.
Our personal favorites from the menu: Tom yum, Tom ka gai soup, Red curry, Khao pad ka pow, Pad kee Mao
Nazerath Restaurant & Deli
This is a Mediterranean restaurant which we like to visit quiet often whenever we crave for their “SPICY chicken on Rice”. Its ultimately delicious in combination with their yummy white sauce. Our usual rule is we order different dishes so that we get to share and try out various food. But that rule doesn’t apply here! Both of us go for the same dish whenever we visit this restaurant. We love it that much! They also have very good appetizers and desserts.
Our personal favorites from the menu: Spicy chicken on rice, Falafel.
Special Mention
Jeni’s Splendid IceCreams
Though this blog is about best restaurants, I didn’t have the heart to end it without mentioning about this “Gem of Columbus”. Yes! if you are passing through Columbus or visit any of the other cities they serve at, DON’T MISS TO STOP AT JENIS. Jeni (the founder) has been making ice creams for over two decades and her flavors are very unique and truly mind blowing. Our favorites are Wildberry lavender, Brambleberry crisp, Ndali Estate vanilla & Riesling Poachd Pear Sorbet.
