Last year (2017), while on our way to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska we camped at a lot of free camp sites and scenic turnouts. We did a blog listing all our favorite spots on the. You can read about it here – Free camping spots along Alaska Hwy. This year (2018) we drove through most of the same route again while driving all the way to Tuktoyaktuk on the famous Dempster Highway and found more interesting free camping spots that we wanted to share.
Inga lake campground
GPS : 56.616523, -121.633958
Inga lake campground in British Columbia has few recreational sites right by the lake about 2.5km from the Alaska hwy. It has clean sites with fire ring and tables. You can also access lake from this campground. When we visited, the sites along the lake were crowded. So, we found a nice secluded spot and stayed for the night. Only drawback was the truck traffic on the nearby service road. It is a couple of miles from the Alaska Highway on a dirt road. It should be accessible on most of the conditions without any problem.
Wynns location – Camp along Racing river, Canada
GPS : 58.825869, -125.132557
We call it Wynns location since we got to know about this amazing campsite though one of the Gone with the Wynns travelogs. Its is one of the best location we have camped so far. Absolutely gorgeous views from the peaceful and secluded site by the river. Can’t get enough of it. There are couple more sites nearby, but this is most secluded one. Its easy to miss this site’s entry as it stays hidden from the road. So, use the coordinates to navigate.

Muncho lake Turnouts
There are so many turnouts along the Muncho lake where you can pullover for the night. Driving along this lake itself is very beautiful, especially if it is a cloudy day with a bit of fog – almost feels dreamy! Its not a designated camping spot but just about enough for a night, watch beautiful sunrise and get going for the day. Since this stretch has lots of curves and blind turns, be cautious on where you park.
Pelly River crossing campground
GPS : 62.825850, -136.581147
While traveling north on Klondike highway, you will find this campground on your left before the Pelly river bridge. Absolutely free campground with lots of sites that can accommodate any kind of RV. They have boat launch, fire pit, picnic tables, free fire woods, outhouse and covered dining area. Most of the site have good privacy too. A convenience store/ gas station is located just across the highway. It has shower, laundry and dumping facilities for a fee.
Wayside near Trout River
GPS : 59.266389, -125.959694
We covered this location on our 2017 blog, but got few more pictures from our recent trip. Though we did not stay here this time, it is just a perfect boondock location.
