Our adventure started where it all began the city of St Joseph, Missouri. Having a good railroad connection and being centrally located made St Joseph the optimal starting point for the Pony Express. The Pony Express was operational from April 1860 to October 1861. It was a mail delivery service that aimed to expedite communication between the east and west coast of the United States, primarily before the completion of the transcontinental telegraph.
The route covers nearly 2,000 mi from St Joseph to Sacramento, California. Every 10 to 15 miles, there were stations where the Riders would change horses and covered an impressive 100 miles per day. The riders were usually young skilled horsemen. They rode at high speeds, changing horses frequently. The mail delivery was within days, which used to take weeks or even months before the service.

Things to know before your do this trail:
Not all road trails are easy. You definitely need all wheel drive or 4WD with high clearance to drive through some of the stretches.
When travelling from East to west, the route gets very scenic and more rugged. Full size spare tire is a MUST.
Though historic signs are available for a distance when traveling from east, the more you travel deep into the mountains and valleys, it gets very remote and no signs to direct you through the right path. So, be careful and do your research.
